About Architectural patinas

Architectural Patinas is located in Sonoma County, California and was established in 2005 by Cliff White. They create and apply patina to a variety of architectural surfaces and fabricated metals, including kitchen hoods, decorative pieces, railings, and interior and exterior structures. They are available for custom work throughout the West Coast.

A native of London, England, Cliff graduated from the University of London's Camberwell College of the Arts and upon graduation, taught printmaking at London's Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. In 1970 Cliff formed White Ink Limited with acclaimed designer Gordon House. White Ink, one of London's finest printmaking studios, serviced painters, sculptors and other artists in producing high quality limited edition prints from copper plates.

The metal plate etching process involved in creating the prints at White Ink inspired Cliff to develop a method for creating entirely customized and handmade patinas using a liquid etch. From black and white line art, Cliff applies the custom design through the liquid etch process, to a number of metal surfaces, such as copper and zinc. In addition to applying designs to metal surfaces, these metals can also be patinated to age or to a different color of the client's choice. Cliff transforms raw metal into art.

Cliff White is a passionate and skilled artisan who employs the best materials available and holds his work to the highest standard. Cliff's artistic background enables him to collaborate with and interpret the vision of the designers, architects, fabricators and clients that he works with.
